Snapshot and portrait photographs depicting multiple generations of the Desmond and Mueller families in California and Switzerland.
Also includes a small amount of photographs of the Uccelli and Whang families of California. Most photographs taken in family
homes or during travels and leisure outings throughout California, including such places as San Francisco, Yosemite Valley,
Lake Tahoe, and other Sierra Nevada locations, and Marin County, as well as several other locations in the United States and
Mexico. Photograph by L.G. Desmond of a 1969 Vietnam War protest march in San Francisco are present. Also includes a landscape
painting of Mount Tamalpais by Felix F. Desmond.

Marguerite Mueller-Desmond was born in Switzerland in 1908. She came to the United States as a nursing student in 1929. While
working in San Francisco, she met Lawrence C. Desmond, whom she married in 1931. They had homes in San Francisco and Lake
Tahoe. Their son Lawrence Gustave Desmond was born in 1935. A specialist in the civilization of the ancient Maya, he recieved
his PhD in anthropology and archaeology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is affiliated with the Moses Mesoamerican
Archive and Research Project at Harvard University and the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
